Total unemployment now stands at 2.46 million, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), down by 7,000 compared with three months ago.
Meanwhile, the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance fell to 1.61 million.
But the inactivity rate - measuring the number of people neither working nor looking for work - rose to 21%.
The above is from AL BEEB, mouth piece for the government.
So whats happening, have the government found a way to manipulate the figures in the run up to the election ? 7,000 is not a lot of difference, and could well mean a portion of people have moved from one benefit to another so are not counted in these figures. If you have been made redundant, you can not claim job seekers allowance straight away as it is. So tat figure falling could also be part of the cycle.
If you notice though, a little caveat at the end, tells you the people not working or looking for work has risen. So in other words the numbers have gone up, the government have just managed to remove them from the figures which matter so it makes them look good.

It all depends on how they manipulate the figures.
Only those in receipt of JOBSEEKERS ALLOWANCE are the numbers they give for the unemployed. You are only allowed to claim JOBSEEKERS ALLOWANCE for Six Months.
Then you are taken off the unemployed list and then go onto INCOME SUPPORT.
You want the INCOME SUPPORT FIGURES to have a real idea of the size of the UNEMPLOYED.
