Of the 55 known BNP candidates declared here to date (incl Penrith & The Borders) 38 are in Parliamentary constituencies not fought in 2005 - only 17 seats declared had BNP candidates at the last General Election.
This presumably leaves the 102 Parliamentary constituencies fought in 2005 and surely most likely again to have a BNP candidate still to select or publicly name the candidate. That would make around 157 seats in addition to other new seats which are being considered, have yet to select or actually publicly name the candidate.
It does look like they'll be at least 200 BNP candidates standing then. I can think of about 22 other seats which have declared there will be PPCs but no candidate has been publicly named. Then there have been regional announcements about how many candidates each region is hoping to stand. The East Midlands region is notably leading the way in publicly naming their PPCs to date:
East Midlands 13 seats declared
North West - 9 seats declared
London - 7 seats declared
Yorkshire 5 seats declared
North East - 4 seats declared
West Midlands - 4 seats declared
South East - 4 seats declared
Eastern - 3 seats declared
South West 3 seats declared
Wales - 2 seats declared
Scotland 1 seat declared

ReplyDeleteBy the way, I see the target of standing at least 200 BNP candidates has received quite a boost. In Scotland (one of our weakest regions) Scotland BNP have announced their intention to stand up to 23 candidates (to include all 7 parliamentary seats in Glasgow). That would be almost 40% of seats in Scotland if achieved (there are 59 Parliamentary constituencies in all). Then consider areas like Cumbria are on the verge of seeing contests in every Parliamentary seat in that county...
