Andrew Pelling First elected as MP for Croydon Central in 2005. Was suspended from the Conservative party for two months following his arrest in Sept 2007 for assaulting his wife, he was subsequently released without charge and re-admitted to the Parliamentary Conservative party. In January 2008 it was announced he was suffering from clinical depression. He will step down at the next election. Of course he didn't get the sack or cause a by election he just stuck it out until the next election so he can get himself a very handsome pension at the tax payers expense. But there is also rumours that Mr Pelling did want to stand again as a CON but the CONS wouldn't have him, he may well consider standing as an independent.

THE BNP got 3,878 votes in the area of Croydon in the recent European Elections in June 2009
In 2008 The BNP came 4th in the voting area of Croydon and Sutton.
Richard Barnbrook British National Party
1st choice votes 5,845 3.36%
2nd choice votes 11,420 7.74%
A strong showing for the BNP in Croydon could well be helped by the turmoil in the Tory party and whether or not Mr Pelling stands or not and so splits the Tory vote and the diminishing Labour vote, The local voters really only have the BNP to turn to if they want a party which will work for them.
Well Done Cliff, Good Luck for May 6th!
