RESPONSE OF A SORTS FROM THE CWU

Before I rested for the weekend I started the any questions bit. I sent a couple of emails out asking the very questions I had asked on the blog. Still no reply from the NUJ. But I did get a reply of sorts from the CWU concerning the posties.

This is the mail I sent.
Dear Sir or Madam

I have a question concerning your members who work for Royal Mail.

What is your advice to members concerning the delivering of BNP election material for this years General Election?

If your advice is to not deliver BNP material, why do you allow postal workers to deliver scam letters to vulnerable individuals?

I would be interested in your reply.

Thank you for your time.

Admittedly I am never subtle and didn't even expect a response as they do not wish to help or aide anyone pro BNP.

But I did get this reply

In order that we can answer your specific query, we will need your membership number to confirm that you are a member of the CWU.

If you cannot find your membership number, then your address or date of birth and your workplace will suffice.

Regards

I thought that's odd and so replied

Do you not answer questions from the general public?

To which I got this reply.
We do not normally correspond with non members of the CWU on work matters

I will say only this though on this occasion. The CWU does not advise its members not to deliver BNP or any other election material for that matter.

Thanks for your question

Now I am sure I have seen material floating around the Internet saying that unions have advised posties to not deliver BNP material. If anyone could please send me a link to this material or story I would be grateful.

But the official line from CWU is that they do not advise posties to not deliver BNP material. Lets hope they hold true to their word.
