A REPLY FROM PLAID CYMRU

If you have been following my blog posts, you would have known that over the weekend, I wrote to five different political parties posing each one the same question but in context to that party. Below is the reply from Plaid Cymru. It is interesting to read the bit where they say "It is a matter of conscience whether or not you feel it is right to join a party whose aims you do not support."

That is exactly what I was trying to get at with the court action on Friday, we are not forcing people to join us, they join of their own free will. If you do not support the cause then you will not join. You will only join a party if you believe in at least some part of what they stand for. So the BNP should not be forced to change, we are what we are, take us or leave us. What the establishment doesn't like is that more people are thinking the same way we do.

Reply from Plaid Cymru

Thank you for your message and your interest in joining Plaid Cymru.

An independent Wales within the European Union is one of the constitutional aims of the Party. We believe in an independent Wales with a continuing social union with England based on mutual respect and equality.

It is a matter of conscience whether or not you feel it is right to join a party whose aims you do not support.

Plaid Cymru is a broad church and a range of views are discussed openly, we do not prejudice against people based on their views, although there are views which would not be tolerated by members such as racist views for example.

I would stress again that it's a matter for you whether or not you would want to join a party whose views are fundamentally different to your own - at least constitutionally. I assume that the reason you are interested is that there are other policies of Plaid Cymru that you do subscribe to?

  2. I am offended that:

"An independent Wales within the European Union is one of the constitutional aims of the Party."

Therefore can I get the EHRC to take them to court and get them to remove that objective?
