Who are the real fascists ?

Who are the real fascists? You would have read on THIS posting, that the Durham students had to cave in to threats of violence from the UAF. Now the piece itself has caused ructions. They have had to change the picture of the BNP truth truck to a table display of anti fascists. I wonder if their had been more threats of violence?

I had left a comment and so had Cllr Chris Beverley both of which has been removed. Freedom of speech doesn't extend to all. I have allowed a comment just to show you the level of support the UAF has.

This article, appearing in Durham University's student newspaper, The Palatinate, was written by students.

We were reporting on tensions between our debating society and the NUS/UAF, which have been largely resolved since the NUS President appeared at the society yesterday.

Let it be know that the Palatinate, the NUS and the University debating society (Durham Union Society) abhor the views of the BNP. We believe you are a disgusting racist, fascist and homphobic party.

The NUS/UAF didn't want you to appear because they don't think your views deserve a public platofrm.

The DUS wished BNP members to speak at the debate so that their ideas could be taken apart in an intellectual argument (like Griffin on QT).

All sides agree: we will continue to fight against the BNP.

Let it be known BNP ELECTION RESULTS allows all people to get their remarks aired and not deleted as has been done to BNP supporters on the Palatinate site.

But strangely enough, Jack talks as though this was just a misunderstanding between the DUS and the NUS/UAF. But their own remarks show that they actually feared physical violence by the UAF and it would be blamed on the DUS for inviting the BNP.

Earlier in the week a group from UAF petitioned in front of Elvet Riverside to stop the debate from taking place. Speaking on Wednesday, spokesperson Michael Dixon “guaranteed the debate would not take place” as it would “damage the multiculturalism of a thousand students on campus”. The group then invaded the DSU to protest, confusing the building with that of the DUS which is on Palace Green.

DSU Equality Officer Laurie Drake, whose personal contact details were passed onto the organisation by the NUS, has also called UAF tactics into question after he received a “threatening phone call” from their regional organiser.

“I was lambasted for half an hour by the regional representative; it was not a nice phone call to receive. She was quite threatening and told me to do as she said, otherwise there would be trouble and violence next week,” Drake revealed.

Relating the encounter with UAF to Palatinate, Mr Drake stated: “I find the actions of NUS and Unite Against Fascism unbelievable; they are so totalising in their approach. If I didn’t agree with the UAF representative, I was just a racist. It was as simple as that”.

Direct quote from the article, you do have to laugh at how the UAF protested outside the wrong building. But the other comments are not a joke. This organisation does not want free speech, they do not want anyone from the BNP or who supports them to be heard. This unelected organisation has deemed it right that no one else should discuss, debate or court the ideas of the BNP. They use the tactics of violence and intimidation not the ballot box and debate as the BNP do.

Who is the real Fascist?
