Referendum on voting but not on europe.

AL BEEB REPORTS HERE that Gordon Brown hopes to fiddle the election system. Why is he proposing anything, when neither the CONS or LIB DUMS supporting it?

It will take at least 18 months and has to be passed by parliament to then go to a referendum. This is of course a con, all of Labours voting changes have been. The introduction of all postal voting, created thousands of fraudulent votes cast, with several court cases for fiddled elections.

This new AV system which is adopted by Australia, would only stand to confuse the electorate, who is already fed up to the back teeth with politics as it is.

What is wrong with first past the post ? If we were being simplistic it is used in every celebrity filled talent TV filler run programme. You don't vote for your first, second and third favourites. You simply vote for the person you want to win.

The main problem with FPTP in politics is that too many votes become lost in the system, and in some areas it is almost worthless as you are outnumbered geographically. Thus your voice becomes unheard. This might not be important when you are voting on someones five minutes of fame, but it is when it means how the country is run.

This system being thought of by GB is slanted always towards the incumbent MP or the top parties, as you now not only need to win by 50% but you can gain votes from the other parties. It also throws up the scenario of, what if I don't vote for more than one person. I only want to VOTE BNP. Thus if everyone did this, they would be left with the same position they have now. The complexity will only cause more options for fiddling. Maybe this is what GB wants to create.

If they wanted to be really inclusive, why not go all out for proportional representation. of the six hundred odd MPs in 2005 the BNP would have gained 7 MPs in the coming general election on current percentages we would expect to see a rise to around 28 MPs. More people are likely to vote, as every vote would count.

But where would you get the people from, would it be a list system as you have for the European elections. If that is so, how many MPs would each region get. For the North East you only get 3 MEPs so only the top 3 parties get a look in anyway. If you get a pool of MPs for an area, who would look after that area? How big an area would they cover? Would you have 70 MPs covering the whole of London? If so which would you go to for help?

The current parliament, though not perfect does what it should. It sends a representative of the people from a specific area and that person should fight for the interests of the people who elected him or her.

There lies the problem, it is not the voting system which is the problem, but the people elected. In many places you have candidates air lifted in, because it is a safe seat for the party which they stand for. It is not one of your own people from the area, which is representing your region.

Fix that and you may go someway to restoring parliament for what it should be. If GB is so desperate for a referendum. Why not have one on Europe? Labour promised this at the last election, as with many other promises they have broken. May I suggest VOTE BNP and get rid of the bloody lot of them.
