DAVID TAYLOR LABOUR MP FOR LEICESTERSHIRE NW DIES

David Taylor, the MP for Leicestershire NW, has died. CLICK HERE for news report from Al Beeb.

Now will this cause a by election before the next General election ? Or will this indeed force the hand of Gordon Brown ?

It is a delicate time, but politics can be cruel, and you have to think of the ramifications. Gordon Brown could be faced with another uncomfortable by election just before the General Election, or the surprise of a March election will be lost as the petition for this seat is held up. Or wait till May and have this as the backdrop.

The seat is far from safe Labour and was expected to be lost to the Tories.

Ian Meller BNP
Andrew Bridgen (Conservative)
Ross Wilmott (Labour)
Paul Reynolds (Liberal Democrat)
Danny Stowell (UKIP)

List of PPC's before the death of the current MP. David Taylor was going to stand down at the next election as it was.

RESULT FROM 2005 GENERAL ELECTION

David Taylor Labour 21449
Nicola Le Page Conservative 16972
Rod Keyes Liberal Democrat 5682
John Blunt UK Independence Party 1563
Clive Potter British National Party 1474

The BNP have found success in the NORTH WEST LEICESTERSHIRE returning councillors, and look certain in any forthcoming election to secure a good percentage.

  1. There won't be a by-election. The clincher is, of course, that Labour could come third behind the BNP which a contender for '2009 Political Betting Poster of the Year' poignantly observes "no one in the political class will want that in the current climate".
