BARNSLEY EAST

PPC's so far for Barnsley East

BNP Colin Porter
Labour Jeff Ennis
Conservative James Hockney

Now Barnsley East first created in 1983 then became Barnsley East and Mexborough in 1997 has now returned to Barnsley East. But a lot of the seat is actually under Doncaster, so voters will have Doncaster postcodes and phone codes, and be closer to Doncaster town hall, but have their votes counted in Barnsley Town Hall.

1 Doncaster Central - Colour code - Pale Blue
2 Doncaster North - Colour code - Orange
3 Don Valley - Colour code - green
4 Barnsley East - Colour code - Dark Brown (within Doncaster MBC boundary) - Colour code - Pale Brown (within Barnsley MBC boundary)

Barnsley East is shared between Doncaster and Barnsley

Seems strange for the boundary commission to split up the voters as they have.

The new Barnsley East seat is made up of.
6 wards from the old Barnsley East and Mexborough seat,5 from Barnsley West and Penistone and 2 from Barnsley Central.

The notional result from 2005 would have been.

Labour: 22552 (70.2%)
Liberal Democrat: 5077 (15.8%)
Conservative: 3608 (11.2%)
Other: 884 (2.8%)
Majority: 17475 (54.4%)

Liberal Democrat Miles Crompton 4,746 16.6 +1.9
Conservative Peter Morel 3,813 13.3 +0.2
BNP Geoff Broadley 1,403 4.9 N/A
Independent Donald Wood 1,175 4.1 N/A
Majority 12,732 44.5 -10.4
Turnout 28,615 47.2 +1.4
Labour hold Swing -5.2

You will notice that the notional result is what the result would have been if the seat had been in existance in 2005, this gives Labour a 70% vote share, Where as all the other seats although strong Labour ranged from 50 to 60 percent Labour have done their best to ensure they have a very safe seat although most of it belongs to Doncaster and if the boundary commission was really bothered they would place the voters under the Doncaster region.

2008 Local Election votes for the BNP, for wards in Barnsley East

Cudworth 650
Darfield 316
Hoyland Milton 289
North East 308
Rockingham 343
Stairfoot 350
Wombwell 527

over 2,700 votes in 2008 Which would be 10% share of the 2005 notional result, making the BNP a significant party which will mix it up well with the other parties. Lets not forget Barnsley had a 16% vote share for the BNP and helped elect Mr Brons for the Yorkshire and Humber region. With the Vote increasing the BNP could even be seen as the only true opposition to Labour. The BNP is fighting against an area which has been designed to be even safer for Labour.
