I think the events of the last 36 hours just shows how dependent the UK is on charity led organizations. The flooding in Cumbria could have turned into a disaster if we didn't have the help of the RNLI or Mountain rescue. But why should this be ? Why should organizations have to rely on charity donations to keep them in exsistance.
What if people stopped giving ? I do believe that instead of giving money away to the rest of the world, we should really be ensuring our own communities are safe and sound first. Gordon Brown who has swept into Cumbria desperate to gain a media benefit and poll upshot from this. But as one of the local residents was being interviewed as they stood in a flood damaged business said " I only hope the bank helps us with loans instead of paying out the bonus's we need a share of the money the government has given them, just so we can survive. "
Is Gordon Brown listening, I guess not. He will just be looking to see if his poll rating goes up. He will of course be forcing through a bill, making it law that the UK government has to give 0.7% of its GDP to foreign countries. How about enshrining in law, that the the rural communites get our support. That we give money to ensure every community has a working transport system and post office's. Why not take essential services out of the hands of the charity box and into the governments coffers. People would gladly pay a higher tax if we knew it was being spent wisely.
I guess the ideas are too sensible and do not further the destruction of the UK which Gordon Brown and his ilk want. Let's hope someone gets into power who will put the British people first and there is only one party that will do that. The BNP.
