Dave Leech, Labour Party: 1,257, 75.1%
Danny Cooke, BNP: 174, 10.5%
Kevin Riddiough, English Democrats: 146, 8.8%
Clive Watkinson, Conservatives: 61, 3.7%
Edward Alan Gouthwaite, Ind: 21, 1.3%
2nd place looks good, but the figures tell a different story. 10.5% in a ward where in 2008 the party polled in excess of 30% shows how the party have slipped. Yes, in 2008 there was a very unpopular Tony Blair running the country, but since then you've had a Barnsley Labour MP convicted of fiddling expenses. The English Democrats picked up a respectable result for their first time standing in the ward.
Let's not forget that the "useful idiots" on the left have been smearing the party in this ward. Also the anti-bnp smear programme will have had an effect on some voters.
ReplyDeleteThe BNP did very well under current circumstances!
